Best NIS2 Compliance Software in 2026: 5 Tools Compared

The best NIS2 compliance software depends on the job it has to do. In short:

  • SMB building an ISMS, often together with ISO® 27001 or TISAX®: Valiido.
  • Tech company that wants evidence collected automatically from cloud systems for several EU frameworks: Matproof.
  • Financial company that needs DORA and other frameworks next to NIS2: Venvera.
  • Large company that already runs OneTrust for privacy or third-party risk: OneTrust.
  • Supplier that mainly answers customer security questionnaires: Orbiq, as a Trust Center next to the ISMS.

Transparency first: we are the vendor of Valiido. Competitor information comes from the official vendor pages, checked on October 27, 2026, not from hands-on tests. That is why there is no overall winner and no star rating here, but the same criteria and the same acceptance test for every tool.

Comparison at a glance

The size threshold for NIS2 is 50 employees, or turnover and balance sheet each above €10 million. Entry plans limited to 50 employees therefore rarely fit. For a company in scope, compare the next plan up: Valiido Pro €299/month, Venvera Professional €799/month (billed annually, up to 250 employees), Matproof Professional €1,200/month (up to 3 frameworks, 50 team members). Have taxes, onboarding, integrations and contract terms confirmed in writing.

What NIS2 software has to do

Check every tool against the duties of the BSIG, not against a feature list:

  • The ten areas of § 30 with evidence: each measure with owner, linked risk, evidence and review date. Details in the ten NIS2 measures under § 30 BSIG.
  • Incident deadlines from awareness: 24 hours, 72 hours and one month under § 32, with the time of awareness recorded. See NIS2 incident reporting.
  • Management duties: approvals, oversight in the management review and records of management training (§ 38).
  • Supplier register: critical suppliers with assessment and reassessment date.
  • Reuse: one record for NIS2 and ISO® 27001 or TISAX®. What a certificate does not cover is in NIS2 and ISO® 27001.
  • Audit trail and export: who changed what and when, and a full export if you leave.

The five tools in detail

Valiido

An ISMS platform for SMBs with a guided plan. NIS2 is a framework of its own in the Valiido Guide, next to ISO® 27001 and TISAX®.

  • Strengths: chapter-by-chapter plan with templates; incidents with the 24-hour, 72-hour and one-month deadlines; training templates for staff and management; management review with a NIS2 section; the NIS2 chapters show the ISO® 27001 controls behind them; fixed prices without per-module fees.
  • Limits: AuditMagic checks against ISO® 27001 and TISAX®, not against NIS2. You submit registration and reports in the BSI portal yourself. No tenant switcher for consultants who look after several clients.
  • Price: Plus €149/month (€124 billed annually) up to 50 employees; Pro €299/month (€249 billed annually) with unlimited employees. The free account includes the NIS2 scope chapter and one incident with deadlines.
  • Fits: SMBs without a compliance department that want to combine NIS2 with ISO® 27001 or TISAX®.

Matproof

A compliance automation platform for European regulation, built and hosted in Europe according to the vendor, with customer data on infrastructure in Germany.

  • Strengths: one set of controls mapped to NIS2, DORA, ISO® 27001, SOC 2, GDPR and the EU AI Act; evidence collected automatically from connected systems; cloud posture monitoring for AWS, Azure and GCP; penetration tests as separate plans.
  • Limits: Starter covers one framework, 10 team members and 10 integrations. Vendor risk management and the Trust Center start with Professional. The benefit depends on how much of your environment the integrations reach.
  • Price: Starter €480/month, Professional €1,200/month, Enterprise on request; 20 percent off with annual billing; 14-day trial without a credit card.
  • Fits: cloud-based tech companies that want to evidence several EU frameworks automatically.

Venvera

A GRC platform for companies that work under many regulatory frameworks, with a focus on the financial sector.

  • Strengths: a control crosswalk across 25+ frameworks; an incident register with a clock per framework (NIS2 24 hours, DORA 4 hours, GDPR 72 hours); evidence requests by link without a login; in Professional a DORA register of information with xBRL-CSV export.
  • Limits: Basic covers up to 50 employees and two frameworks. Evidence Autopilot, awareness training and the DORA register start with Professional. The AI features run on your own API key.
  • Price: Basic €359/month billed annually (€4,308/year); Professional €799/month billed annually (€9,588/year) up to 250 employees; free plan for the vendor register (3 users, 10 vendors); 14-day trial.
  • Fits: banks, insurers and fintechs. Where DORA applies, first clarify which NIS2 duties remain next to it.

OneTrust

A broad enterprise platform with products for privacy, Tech Risk & Compliance and Third-Party Management.

  • Strengths: privacy, IT risk and supplier management on one platform; a natural choice when OneTrust already runs in the company.
  • Limits: no published prices; what you get depends on the modules in the quote. The breadth pays off mainly when a dedicated GRC or privacy team runs the platform.
  • Price: on request after a demo.
  • Fits: large companies that want to run NIS2 in their existing OneTrust setup. Ask for German BSIG content and the incident workflow to be shown.

Orbiq

A Trust Center from Germany that shares security evidence with customers and auditors, now also with compliance automation.

  • Strengths: public, restricted and NDA-protected profiles with watermarking; AI answers to security questionnaires from the Business plan; compliance automation for ISO® 27001 with NIS2 and DORA according to the vendor; EU data residency.
  • Limits: the Trust Center plans share evidence but do not implement NIS2. Compliance automation is a separate offering. Ask which registers and reporting functions it includes.
  • Price: Trust Center Free; Team €85/month or €850/year; Business from €190/month; compliance automation from €299/month according to the vendor's startup page.
  • Fits: suppliers whose customers send long NIS2 questionnaires, as an addition to the ISMS.

The same acceptance test for every shortlist

First check whether you are in scope with the NIS2 scope check. Then give each vendor the same case: a critical supplier is compromised, your production system is down and management needs a decision record.

  1. Trace a measure: a § 30 requirement with owner, linked risk, evidence and next review.
  2. Run the incident: record the time of awareness, assign a deputy, show the § 32 deadlines.
  3. Reuse evidence: link one supplier assessment to all relevant frameworks without copies.
  4. Prove accountability: approvals, training attendance, overdue tasks, change history.
  5. Test the exit: export records with evidence and history; check roles, MFA, data location and deletion terms.

Rate each step as shown, partly shown or open. A failed must-have is a blocker; extra features do not make up for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need software for NIS2 at all?

No. § 30 BSIG requires measures and their documentation, not a particular tool. Software pays off when spreadsheets no longer show owners, deadlines and evidence reliably.

Is a Trust Center enough for NIS2?

No. A Trust Center shares evidence with customers. The measures, incident deadlines and management duties have to be implemented and documented elsewhere.

Does the software register us with the BSI or file our reports?

Registration and reports remain your duty. Software can track deadlines and prepare the content. In Valiido you submit them in the BSI portal yourself; ask other vendors how they handle it.

How we evaluated & sources

Source-based comparison, reviewed October 27, 2026. We are the vendor of Valiido and describe it from direct product knowledge, including its limits. Competitor statements come from the official vendor pages listed below; we did not run hands-on tests or measure implementation times. Features are vendor statements, not proof that a tool meets your requirements. Missing confirmation is not treated as a missing feature. Prices exclude VAT unless stated and may change. We give no overall ranking and no star ratings, because review sources and sample sizes are not comparable.

Does NIS2 Apply to Your Company? Sectors, Thresholds and Scope Check

Whether NIS2 applies to your company comes down to three questions: is your activity listed in Annex 1 or 2 of the BSIG, do you reach the size thresholds in § 28, and does a special case apply regardless of size. This article walks through all three, with examples and a list of what to document.

NIS2 and ISO® 27001: What the Certificate Covers and What Is Missing

An actively maintained ISO® 27001 ISMS supplies most of the evidence for § 30 BSIG. It does not settle NIS2. Four gaps remain: the scope, registration with the BSI, the reporting deadlines and the duties of management. Here is what each gap means and how to close it.
